Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Bars

I made this recipe for the first time about three months ago.  I swear I have made it ten times since then.  It will forever be a family favorite.  And because it has healthy ingredients (whole wheat flour! oats! applesauce!) it's practically good for you.

Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Bars

1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 cup oil (OR 1/2 cup oil, 1/2 cup applesauce)
2 cups brown sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp salt
2 cups whole wheat flour
2 cups quick oats
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup nuts (optional)

Cream together margarine, oil, sugar, eggs and vanilla.  Add dry ingredients and mix well.  Add chocolate chips and nuts.  Put in 9x13 pan and bake at 350 degrees for 30-32 minutes.

Is there something wrong with this recipe? Tried it today, and batter is too liquidy, with all those eggs. Perhaps there should be only 2 eggs? Or perhaps you used very small eggs? I baked for 35 min at 350 degrees in 9x13 inch pan, and nowhere near cooked through. But if I had baked it any longer, outside would have been way too darkened. Flavor is okay. Would not make again without serious adjustments...

How frustrating Janet! I'm so sorry. I looked over the recipe again, and it is exactly like this, with no changes. I always use large eggs. I think I tried three eggs once because I only had three left, and they were a little less dense. Perhaps there is a difference for altitude? I live at about 1500 feet. I hate it when I make a recipe and it doesn't work like I had hoped. I wish I had more helpful advice.
